Clayton State’s Walling selected Peach Belt Conference Women’s “Runner of the Week”

AUGUSTA, Ga. – October 10, 2011 – The Peach Belt Conference released its weekly honors for men's and women's cross country on Monday, and Clayton State's Samantha Walling was selected as the Peach Belt Conference Women's Runner of the Week.

It's the first time this season that a Laker runner has been recognized by the Peach Belt Conference, women or men.

A sophomore from Galt, Calif., Walling was Clayton State's top runner on Saturday in the Foothills Invitational, hosted by Jacksonville State. She finished 18th overall with a time of 19:21.49 in the 5K event. It was the first time this season that Walling has broken 20 minutes in the 5K, and her time was the second-fastest women's 5K time in the Peach Belt this season.

In addition, she was also the fastest PBC runner finishing at the Foothills Invitational

Clayton State will compete next in the Peach Belt Conference championships on Oct. 22 in Aiken, S.C.
