Laker women win two events, set a new team record Sat. at JDL Fast Track meet

Winston Salem, NC – The Clayton State women's track and field team competed Saturday in the JDL Fast Track Championship Tune-up and brought home two first place finishes and had a new school record performance from the meet held in Winston-Salem, NC.

Freshman Jessica Matthews had the team's top performance, winning the triple jump and equaling her team record and NCAA Division II provisional mark for the national meet with a jump of 39-feet 9-3/4 inches. Matthews also placed third in the long jump at 16-8.

Junior Breann Goodman set a new school record in the weight throw with a toss of 43 3-1/4, placing third in the event.

Clayton State's distance medley relay team of sophomore Racquel Valadez, junior Jozlyn Varnedoe, junior Gisele Javois and senior Paige Galvin won with a time of 12:50.11, running the team's second best relay time of the season.

Valadez also finished third in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:37.77, coming within a second of the team record. Galvin placed fourth in the mile run, posting the program's best performance in the event in six seasons with a time of 5:15.59.

The Lakers will return to action on Sunday, February 24th, running in the George Mason Last Chance Meet in Fairfax, Va.
