Galvin and Matthews led Lakers at Tiger Paw Invitational
Clemson, SC – Senior Paige Galvin and freshman Jessica Matthews led the Clayton State women's track and field team Friday and Saturday in the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson University.
In the highly competitive meet, which featured a number of NCAA Division I teams, Galvin had the top performance for the squad placing 13th in the 3K with a time of 10:38.86. She also posted Clayton State's fastest mile time in two seasons, finishing with a time of 5:18.18.
Matthews, taking a break from the triple jump in this meet, competed in her first collegiate hurdle race of the season and placed 25th in the 60m hurdles with a time 9.91.
"We ran up against some tough and deep competition," said head coach Mike Mead. "The field was double the size of last year's meet. We had several events that showed improvement over last year in the smaller meet, which is a positive."
Competing in the 200m, the trio of Matthews (27.68), junior Jozlyn Varnedoe (27.87) and senior Jasmine Madison (28.29) all finished with personal best times, while freshman Taylor Galvin ran a personal best time of 11:13.67 in the 3K.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday, February 16th, running in the JDL Fast Track Championship Tune-up in Winston-Salem, NC.
