Clayton State women record distance medley relay victory at Morehouse Relays

ATLANTA – March 17, 2012 – Running in its 2012 outdoor season opener, the Clayton State Laker women's track and field team turned in some solid results on Saturday at the Morehouse Relays. The Lakers won one event and recorded a total of seven Top 15 finishes.

The highlight for Clayton State was in the first event – the distance medley relay. The Laker team of Samantha Walling, Gisele Javois, Maia Kuhnen and Monique Belmudes won the event with a time of 13:13.71.

Clayton State had three runners place in the Top 15 in the 1,500-meter run. Paige Galvin placed third with a time of 5:08.71, while freshmen Jessica Smith and Holly McNorton both had solid debuts in the event with seventh and 12th-place finishes, respectively. Smith finished seventh in 5:22.37, and McNorton placed 12th in 5:34.11.

Belmudes also recorded a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.42. In addition, Jasmine Madison placed 14th in the 200-meter dash in 28.53 seconds, as did Silvia Espelt in the javelin with a distance of 78-8 feet.

Clayton State competes next weekend (March 23-24) at the Emory Classic.
