No. 11 Clayton State women drop tough 5-4 decision against USC Aiken

MORROW, Ga. – March 31, 2012 – The recent struggles continued on Saturday for the Clayton State Laker women's tennis team as the Lakers dropped another tough heartbreaker 5-4 against visiting USC Aiken in Peach Belt Conference action at Laker Courts.

The defeat drops the Lakers, ranked 11th in Division II, to 5-9 overall and 4-3 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken improves to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the Peach Belt.

Once again down two players, Clayton State won twice in doubles and twice in singles.

In doubles, Martina Dedaj and Jessica Budd prevailed 8-6 over USC Aiken's Manon Hermans and Franziska Regel at No. 1, while Marie Cercelletti and Charlotte Fabricius won a 9-8 thriller over the Lady Pacer team of Margot Simon and Shauna Williams at No. 2. In singles, Cercelletti out-lasted Hermens 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No.1, and Fabricius knocked off Regel 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.

Clayton State aims to get back on the winning track on Sunday when it plays host to Lander at 12 p.m. at Laker Courts.
