Clayton State women win 5-4 thriller at Flagler in Peach Belt Conference action
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – March 4, 2012 – After having its match on Saturday against top-ranked Lynn get cancelled due to weather, the Clayton State Laker women's tennis team returned to action on Sunday and remained undefeated in the Peach Belt Conference with a thrilling 5-4 victory at Flagler.
The victory evens No. 9-ranked Clayton State at 2-2 overall, and the Lakers are also 2-0 in the Peach Belt. No. 15 Flagler falls to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the Peach Belt.
Flagler started out by winning two of the three matches in doubles. Clayton State's lone doubles victory was at No. 1 where Ivana Krommelova and Marie Cercelletti defeated Flagler's Rachel Gould and Barbora Sebkova 8-1.
However, the Lakers won four of the six matches in singles. Krommelova downed Flagler's Veronica Figueroa 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, while Cercelletti defeated Jennifer Saviana from Flagler 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. Hannah Keeling prevailed at No. 3 7-5, 6-1 over Sebkova.
It came down to the match at No. 6, where Clayton State's Alyze' Pagal won a thrilling 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision over Flagler's Krista Ingrilli.
Clayton State stays in Florida this week on Spring Break. The Lakers play Delaware State on Tuesday and Albion on Friday in Orlando.
