Valentine finds the heart of the net twice in Laker victory over Montevallo

Morrow, GA  – The Clayton State women's soccer team came up big Wednesday, winning its third straight match against a quality Peach Belt Conference opponent.

The Lakers won 2-0 at Laker Field behind two goals from their leading scorer and All-Peach Belt Conference forward Natalia Valentine.

"We played well tonight against a good Montevallo team," said head coach Gareth O'Sullivan. "Natalia (Valentine) scored a great opening goal and our defense was solid. This conference is so strong that every win is a quality result."

With the win, the Lakers improve to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Peach Belt, while Montevallo falls to 6-2-1 and 1-2 in the league. Clayton State will return to play on Saturday, facing another Peach Belt rival in Georgia College.

After a scoreless 65 minutes, where the Lakers had several near misses hitting the cross bar three times, Valentine found the back of the net with 25 minutes remaining on an unassisted play from 25 yards out that went over the keeper's outstretched arms.

She scored her seventh goal of the year 20 minutes later, taking a pass from junior Josephine Holsten and then dribbling past the keeper to nail a shot and give the club some insurance.

Clayton State outshot the Falcons 15-9 in the match and Laker keeper Laoise O'Driscoll recorded the shutout her second in the last three games and finished with six saves.
