Clayton State’s Griggs named PBC Player of the Week for 4th time

MORROW, GA  – Three was not enough for Clayton State senior sensation and All-American hopeful Drameka Griggs. For the fourth time this season, Griggs has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Week.

Griggs, a 5-5 guard, from Ellenwood, GA, received the honor from the Peach Belt office in Augusta, GA, earlier today. She led the 3rd-ranked and undefeated Lakers (24-0; 17-0 PBC) to two wins last week, including a victory over Georgia College that clinched Clayton State's third straight Peach Belt Conference regular season title.

She averaged 24 points in the two Laker wins and extended her 20+ point total to five straight games. She scored 21 points to go along with three boards, three assists and two steals as Clayton State beat Georgia College. Griggs then poured in 27 points with five rebounds, four steals and two assists at Montevallo. The senior shot 52 percent from the field, 67 percent from three-point range and hit 86 percent from the foul line.

For the season, Griggs is second in the PBC in scoring, second in field goal percentage, second in free throw percentage, leads the league in steals and is seventh in assists.

Her 465 points this year ranks fifth all-time for a single season. Griggs is only one point behind former Laker great Jamika Hindsman for fourth place and 82 points shy of Clayton State's all-time single season record of 547 points set by former All-American Teshymia Tillman during the program's NCAA Division II national championship season.

For her career, Griggs currently has 1,201 points, which ranks fifth on Clayton State's all-time scoring list. She is only 40 points behind Joya Collier for fourth place.

Griggs was also named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on December 4th, January 7th and January 22nd of this season.

Clayton State will return to action on Saturday, hosting Georgia Southwestern for Senior Night. Tip-off for the game is 5:30 p.m. at the Athletics & Fitness Center.
