Clayton State holds steady at #3 in USA Today Sports/ESPN Division II poll
MORROW, GA – With two more wins last week, the Clayton State women's basketball team held steady at No. 3 in the country in the latest edition of the USA Today Sports/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.
The Lakers, who hold a 20-0 overall record and a 13-0 mark in the Peach Belt Conference, received 739 total points in the poll, which is conducted by 33 NCAA Division II coaches. Ashland University remains the nation's top-ranked team with a 22-0 record and 800 points, followed by Bentley with a 19-0 mark and 765 points.
Ashland, Bentley and Clayton State are now the only three undefeated teams at the NCAA Division II level.
Along with Clayton State, two other Peach Belt schools are in the rankings as USC Aiken (17-2) sits at the No. 5 spot and Augusta State (15-3) comes in a No. 23.
The Lakers are scheduled to travel and face Augusta State on Thursday, marking the second time this season that Clayton State has played another team ranked in the Top-25. The team defeated USC Aiken 56-50 earlier in a January 16th matchup between the #3 Pacers and the #4 Lakers.
After Thursday's games, Clayton State will return to action on Saturday, hosting Montevallo for Homecoming in a 3:30 p.m. at the Athletics & Fitness Center.
