Lakers swap places with USC Aiken, back to 4th in latest Top 25 Coaches Poll
MORROW, GA – After moving up to 3rd last week in the USA Today Sports/ESPN NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Clayton State women's basketball team slid back to 4th this week behind 3rd-ranked USC Aiken.
The two Peach Belt Conference rivals have swapped places the last two weeks in the poll but will have a chance to decide it on the court Wednesday, as Clayton State travels to play the Pacers in a 5:30 p.m. contest in Aiken, SC.
The Lakers had been 4th in the national rankings before jumping ahead of USC Aiken last week despite the fact that neither team has lost on the season. Clayton State and USC Aiken each have represented the PBC well, as the Lakers have a 13-0 record and the Pacers are 12-0.
Clayton State received 683 total points in the poll, which is conducted by 33 NCAA Division II coaches, while the Pacers received 705 points this week. Ashland University remains the nation's top-ranked team with a 17-0 record and 775 points, followed by Bentley with a 13-0 mark and 743 points.
The Lakers captured two victories since the last poll, defeating Young Harris and North Georgia to improve to 6-0 in Peach Belt Conference play.
After Wednesday's game, the Lakers will return home to host UNC Pembroke in a 1:30 p.m. game at the Athletics & Fitness Center.
