Lakers climb to 5th in latest USA Today Sports/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll
MORROW, GA – The Clayton State women's basketball team continues its climb up the USA Today Sports/ESPN NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The Lakers (3-0) climbed to 5th in the country in the poll released yesterday, moving up from 7th last week. The Lakers opened the season in the Union University Lady Bulldog Classic with a 68-51 victory over Delta State, followed by overpowering host Union 66-44. Clayton State defeated Newberry 66-60 last night on the road.
Ashland, with a 6-0 record, sits atop the poll, followed by Bentley and Pittsburg State. Peach Belt Conference rival USC Aiken is ranked 4th in latest rankings with a 4-0 start.
Clayton State will return to action on Saturday with its home opener in the Loch Shop Classic. The Classic will feature Clayton State, league opponent North Georgia, regional opponent Lenoir-Rhyne and Chowan. Clayton State will play Chowan on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the two-day event.
