Clayton State women finish 13th in final USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll

LILBURN, Ga. – March 27, 2012 –
The WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) released its final USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers finished ranked 13h in the nation in the final Top 25.

This marks the sixth straight year that Clayton State has finished the season nationally-ranked in Division II women's basketball.

Clayton State received 362 points in the final poll. The Lakers were one of three teams from the Peach Belt Conference to finish the season nationally-ranked. Lander (24-8) finished eighth, while USC Aiken (27-4) was ranked 12th.

Head coach Dennis Cox's Lakers finished the season 29-4 overall, winning its fifth Peach Belt Conference regular season championship in the last eight years. Clayton State advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the eighth straight season, and the Lakers dropped a heartbreaking 64-63 decision against Wingate in the second round.

2012 NCAA Division II National Champion Shaw was ranked No. 1 in the final Top 25 poll, followed  by Ashland, Bentley, Wayne State and Rollins.
