Clayton State women maintain No. 4 ranking in USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll

LILBURN, Ga. – February 21, 2012 –
The Clayton State Laker women's basketball team maintained its No. 4 national ranking for the third straight week in the new USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 poll released on Tuesday.

Clayton State (24-2, 14-1 Peach Belt Conference) received 693 points in this week's poll - 18 points behind No. 3-ranked Wayne State (24-2). The Lakers lead No. 5 Ashland (24-1) by 29 points. Clayton State won twice last week - a 72-62 victory at Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday, and an 82-70 triumph against Columbus State on Saturday.

Clayton State is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked this week. USC Aiken (21-3, 14-2 PBC) is ranked 10th, up three spots from No. 13, while Lander (19-5, 14-2 PBC) drops one spot from No. 18 to No. 19. In addition, Georgia Southwestern (17-7, 9-6) received votes.

Cal-San Diego (24-0) maintained its No. 1 ranking for a seventh straight week, while Edinboro (22-0) stayed No. 2 for a third straight week. Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 is Bentley (23-3) at No. 6, Metro State (23-2) at No. 7, Alaska-Anchorage (24-4) at No. 8, Northeastern State (22-3) at No. 9 and USC Aiken at No. 10.

Clayton State closes out the regular season with two home PBC home games this week – Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Montevallo, and Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Georgia College.
