USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll (Jan. 24)
LILBURN, Ga. – January 24, 2012 – With its two biggest home games of the season this week, the Clayton State Laker women's basketball team maintained its No. 2 ranking in the nation in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, which was released on Tuesday.
Clayton State (18-1, 8-0 Peach Belt Conference) received 768 points and six first-place votes in this week's poll - 26 points behind top-ranked UC-San Diego (18-0). The Lakers lead No. 3 Edinboro (16-0) by 48 points.
Clayton State is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked this week. USC Aiken (15-2, 8-1 PBC) is ranked 15th, down four spots from No. 11, while Lander (13-3, 8-0 PBC) re-enters the poll at No. 24. Ironically, Clayton State will play host to both ranked teams this week – Lander on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., and USC Aiken on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
While the top three teams remained the same this week, there were a few changes in the Top 10. Metro State (16-1) is ranked fourth, followed by Bentley (16-2), Northeastern State (17-1), Fort Lewis (15-2), Ashland (16-1) and Rollins (14-2).
