Clayton State women ranked sixth in this week’s USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll

LILBURN, Ga. – November 29, 2011 – The new USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll was released on Tuesday and the Clayton State Laker women's basketball team slipped from No. 1 to No. 6 this week.

Clayton State received 648 points and one first-place vote in the new poll after being ranked No. 1 for the preseason poll and the first regular-season poll.  The Lakers split two games over the weekend, falling 63-51 to Tusculum and defeating Brenau 68-54.

Clayton State is one of two Peach Belt Conference teams nationally ranked this week.  USC Aiken is ranked No. 20, while Lander dropped out of the Top 25.  The Lady Bearcats are receiving votes this week, as is Francis Marion and Columbus State.

Bentley takes over as the new top-ranked team in Division II this week, followed by Arkansas Tech, Metro State, Wayne State and Cal-San Diego.

Head coach Dennis Cox's Lakers (4-1) are at home this weekend, playing host to Chowan on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Barton at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
