Clayton State women remain sixth in USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll
LILBURN, Ga. – December 6, 2011 – The latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll released on Tuesday found the Clayton State Laker women's basketball team ranked No. 6 for a second straight week.
Clayton State received 635 points this week, nine points behind Cal-San Diego. The Lakers recorded two victories last week — defeating Chowan 87-45 on Friday and Barton 60-49 on Saturday.
Clayton State is one of two Peach Belt Conference teams nationally ranked in the latest poll. USC Aiken moved up one spot to No. 19. In addition, conference foe Lander received votes.
Nine of the Top 10 spots remain unchanged for this week. Bentley retained its No. 1 ranking, followed by Arkansas Tech, Metro State, Wayne State and Cal-San Diego. Ranked behind Clayton State are Fort Lewis, Michigan Tech, Edinboro and Alaska-Anchorage.
Head coach Dennis Cox's Lakers (6-1) are taking final exams this week before jetting down to "Paradise" and two games in Puerto Rico this weekend against P.R.-Rio Piedras on Saturday and P.R.-Bayamon on Sunday.
