NEW ORLEANS, La. – February 13, 2012 – The USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association) announced its team All-Academic awards for men's cross country on Monday, and Clayton State was of 80 teams to earn that distinction during the 2011 season.
The Laker men were selected USTFCCCA Team All-Academic for a second straight year and the fourth time in program history. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have compiled a score (finished at least five runners) at their respective NCAA regional championship.
Head coach Mike Mead's Lakers were one of five Peach Belt squads selected, joined by Augusta State, Columbus State, Flagler and Georgia College. Clayton State posted a team grade-point average of 3.27 – the highest amongst the five Peach Belt teams honored and second in the Division II Southeast Region only to Mars Hill.
