Clayton State men place sixth at Georgia State Invitational

HAMPTON, Ga. – September 17, 2011 – Following an off weekend, the Clayton State Laker men's cross country team returned to action on Saturday, recording a solid sixth-place finish in the Division I-dominated Georgia State Invitational at Nash Farms.

Clayton State garnered 171 points, edging Austin Peay by six points. The Lakers also downed West Georgia (221), Troy (229) and Morehouse, while finishing only nine points off the pace of Tennessee Tech. Georgia won the meet with 27 points, 35 points ahead of Kennesaw State.

Senior Albert Mong'ony had the top overall finish for the Lakers, running in 26:40 minutes to place 13th. He was the top Division II finisher in the field. Also, freshman Alex Foss continued the strong start to his Clayton State career by placing 30th in 27:53, while sophomore Aytron Azcue finished 41st in 28:32. Fellow sophomore Charles Anderson finished 43rd in 28:47.

Rounding out the Clayton State scoring was sophomore Russell Lawless finishing 44th in 28:53, followed by freshman Tanner Thomason finishing 51st in 29:27 and freshman Preston Valencia placing 62nd in 30:16.

Clayton State runs next in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 1.
