Clayton State men finish fourth at Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – October 1, 2011 – Running in one of the biggest regular season meets of the season, the Clayton State Laker men's cross country team placed fourth on Saturday in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
The Lakers finished fourth with 143 points in their race, just three points behind Oakland in a meet that featured over 100 teams in three different races. West Virginia Wesleyan won this race, featuring mostly NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA programs, with 28 points.
Individually for the Lakers, senior Albert Mong'ony placed fifth overall in the 8K event, breaking 26 minutes for the first time at that distance with a time of 25:38.73. Sophomore Charles Anderson finished 26th overall with a time of 26:47.74, just 10 seconds off his personal best, while freshman Alex Foss placed 28th with a time of 26:51.25.
In addition, sophomore Ayrton Azcue finished 51st overall in 27:24.51, followed by sophomore Russell Lawless in 66th in 27:32.52. Rounding out the Laker scoring were freshmen Tanner Thomason (28:31.21) and Preston Valencia (29:01.74) finishing 130th and 151st, respectively.
Clayton State returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 8) with the Foothills Invitational at Jacksonville State.
