Six Clayton State men named All-Region in Indoor Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS, LA – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Region honorees for the 2012-13 Division II indoor track & field season, and the Clayton State men's team had six student-athletes recognized for their performances this season.
Ayrton Azcue was the top honoree for the men's squad, as he was recognized as All-Southeast Region in three different events. He received the honor in the 800m run, the mile run and the 4x400m relay.
Azcue, who is automatically qualified for the NCAA Division II indoor championship meet, is ranked No. 4 in the 800m run. He set the school indoor records in the 800m with a time of 1:50.36 and in the mile with a time of 4:13.85.
Freshman Job Kemboi was named All-Region after setting Clayton State's record in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:39.56. Bryce Rauhof received All-Region honors in the weight throw with a school record toss of 49-feet 5 ½ inches, while Charles Anderson received the honor in the 800m run and the 4x400m run.
Along with Azcue and Anderson, Dinero Nicholas and Shelby Russell received All-Region honors in the 4x400 relay posting a season best time of 3:23.30.
Azcue will return to action in the NCAA Division II National Championships on March 8-9 in Birmingham, AL, while the rest of the men's squad will continue training for the outdoor track and field season.
