Clayton State's Azcue sets school record in 800-meter run at Bob Polluck Invitational
CLEMSON, S.C. - May 5, 2012 - Clayton State Ayrton Azcue went into the Bob Polluck Invitational on Saturday with intentions of making the NCAA provisional qualifying time in the men's 800-meter run.
Azcue barely missed making the qualifying mark, but did not come away empty-handed at the meet at Clemson. The Laker junior finished eighth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.89. That set the Clayton State school record in the 800-meters for outdoor track and field.
In addition to Azcue, sophomore Russell Lawless finished 12th overall in the event with a time of 1:54.41.
Azcue will have one more chance to make the NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800-meter run when he competes next Saturday (May 12) at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
