Clayton State men post solid times at Gator Invite
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – January 22, 2012 – The Clayton State Laker men's track and field team returned to action in the 2012 indoor season, posting some quality times on Sunday in the Gator Invite at Florida.
The top finisher for the Lakers in the meet was senior Albert Mong'ony, who placed sixth overall in the mile run with a time of 4:31.90. Clayton State had two other Top 10 finishers in junior Ayrton Azcue, who placed ninth in the 3,000-meter run in 8:51.07, and sophomore Russell Lawless finished 10th in the mile run in 4:36.16.
Overall, Clayton State had four participants in the mile run. In addition to Mong'ony and Lawless, sophomore Charles Anderson placed 12th in 4:36.97 and freshman Alex Foss placed 14th in 4:39.07. Clayton State had three participants in the 800-meter run, paced by junior Shelby Russell placing 13th in 1:58.18. Anderson finished 16th in 1:59.53 and junior Ricky Fort placed 21st in 2:02.16.
In addition, junior Edlin Veras placed 13th in the 400-meter dash in 51 seconds.
Both Laker relay teams garnered Top 10 finishes in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Veras, Russell, Anderson and Fort finished sixth in 3:27.44, while the second team of Foss, Azcue, Mong'ony and Devon Lawson finished ninth in 3:30.02.
Clayton State's next meet is Division II Team Challenge at Lake Erie in Geneva, Ohio on Feb. 4.
