Lakers down Young Harris 2-1 on Senior Night
Morrow, GA – With two unanswered goals, the Clayton State men's soccer team downed Peach Belt Conference opponent Young Harris 2-1 Wednesday on Senior Night at Laker Field.
The Mountain Lions leaped out to an early lead in Wednesday match, striking for a goal in the fifth minute as freshman midfielder Lewis Hilton fired a shot in the back of the net off a short pass in the box from Mouhamed Bechir.
Clayton State answered however in the 32nd minute as senior midfielder Bobby Dodd scored his first career goal for the team in his last match regular season match as a Laker. Dodd headed in a shot off a corner kick from Jonny Evans to knot the score at one apiece.
The Lakers took a 2-1 in the 67th minute as junior Kevin Rodriquez scored his third goal of the year off a pass from midfielder Nomis Cisic.
Clayton State held on for the final 20 minutes as the Mountain Lions had several scoring opportunities down the stretch.
"A great win for us tonight against good team," said head coach Pete Petersen. "We really needed that. It will give us some confidence, heading into the Peach Belt Conference Tournament next week."
The win improved Clayton State to 7-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play. The Lakers will return to action on Tuesday on the road in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
