Clayton State men's soccer ranked 18th in country
MORROW, GA – The Clayton State men's soccer team had an impressive start to its 2012 season and have received some national recognition for its strong play.
The Lakers cracked the NCAA Division II national soccer rankings earlier this week, coming in at No. 18 in the first NSCAA/Continental Tire poll. Along with Clayton State, who was not ranked in the preseason poll, Peach Belt Conference rival Flagler sits at No. 4 in the national rankings.
"We are off to a good start for our young team," said head coach Pete Petersen. "This weekend playing on the road against some quality opponents will be another big test. We will be able to see where we are."
Clayton State will put its early ranking on the line later this week traveling to Florida to play in the Peach Belt/Sunshine State Challenge, hosted by the University of Tampa. Clayton State will play Eckerd on Thursday and Tampa on Saturday in the event. Tampa entered the poll this week with at No. 10 and also has a 2-0 record on the year.
