Clayton State men travel to North Georgia for first round of Peach Belt Conference Tournament
MORROW, Ga. – October 31, 2011 – The Clayton State Laker men's soccer team picked up a much-needed victory at USC Aiken on Saturday to close out the regular season. Now the Lakers aim to use the momentum to its advantage going into the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
Clayton State is seeded fifth entering the 2011 PBC Tournament, and the Lakers will travel to North Georgia for Tuesday's first-round game. Game time is 7 p.m. in Dahlonega. Clayton State enters the tournament 9-7 overall and an even 4-4 in the PBC, while North Georgia is 9-6-1 and 5-3 in the Peach Belt.
The winner of the first-round game advances to Friday's Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday in Augusta, and the PBC Tournament championship is set for Sunday in Augusta.
The Lakers won the regular season match-up between the two teams, 4-0 at Laker Field on Sept. 28. After that victory, however, Clayton State went into a tailspin, dropping five of its next six games before prevailing 2-1 over USC Aiken on Saturday. North Georgia, meanwhile, won five of its remaining seven games to close out the regular season.
This will be the third time that Clayton State and North Georgia have squared off in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament since the Saints joined the conference in 2005. Clayton State prevailed in both games 1-0 in the 2005 and 2007 PBC Tournament semifinals.
