Clayton State men’s golf finishes 4th at UNA Tournament
Killen, AL – For the second time this season, the Clayton State golf team recorded a top five finish, this time placing fourth in the TVA Credit Union Invitational hosted by the University of North Alabama.
Tied for third after yesterday's opening two rounds, the Lakers held their own in the field of 15 teams, which featured several of the top NCAA Division II programs in the Southeast. The Lakers shot a 4-over par final round of 292 to finish with a three round total of 870 at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Killen, AL.
Clayton State finished three shots behind Peach Belt rival Columbus State and only 10 shots behind winner and host North Alabama. Rollins College placed second with a team total of 866.
For Clayton State, junior Alex Vetnar led the way for the Lakers, finishing second overall and only six shots behind low medalist Scott Lamb from Rollins on the par-72, 7,133 yard course. Vetnar had a final round 68 after rounds of 75 and 69 on Monday.
Junior Fredrik Lindblom tied for 14th with rounds of 73-67-79, followed by sophomore Will Shenstone tying for 23rd. He had a final round 73 after opening the tournament on Monday with scores of 76 and 73. Junior Tyson Beaupre tied for 26th in the event after rounds of 71-74-78, followed by sophomore Ryan Haskell firing a final round 73 after rounds of 77-79 to finish tied for 37th.
Clayton State will close its fall season on Oct. 28-29 in the Matt Dyas Memorial Collegiate at Oak Mountain Golf Club in Carrollton, GA. The tournament will be hosted by West Georgia.
