Clayton State men's golf team places 11th in Aflac/Cougar Invitational
Columbus, GA – In a tournament featuring many of the region's top NCAA Division II teams, the Clayton Sate men's golf team tied for 11th in AFLAC/Cougar Invitational held at the Country Club of Columbus.
The two-day tournament, which was played in rainy conditions on Monday, concluded today with Laker squad finishing up their second round that was suspended yesterday due to darkness and playing their third round.
Clayton State shot a three-round team total of 898 and trailed Delta State by only four strokes, barely missing a top-10 finish in the field of 16 teams. Florida Southern won the team title with a score of 863, followed by host Columbus State, four shots back at 867. North Alabama placed third at 873, followed by Georgia at 880 and Coker College rounding out the top five with a score of 882.
Junior Fredrik Lindblom had the top finish for the Lakers tying for 16th with rounds of 73-74-73 on the par-71, 6,515 yard course. Sophomore Will Shenstone tied for 35th with rounds of 72-76-76, followed by sophomore Ryan Haskell tied for 55th after rounds of 81-74-74.
Senior Chris McManus tied for 61st after rounds of 79-77-74, followed by junior Alex Vetnar tied for 70th with rounds of 77-76-79.
Columbus State's Jesse Gibson took low medalist honors with a three-under par score of 210, shooting three straight 1-under par rounds of 70.
Clayton State will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 15-16, playing in the TVA Credit Classic at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Florence, AL. The tournament will be hosted by North Alabama.
