Clayton State finishes eighth overall at Magnolia Collegiate Invitational
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – March 13, 2012 – The Clayton State Laker men's golf team showed some improvement on Tuesday and finished eighth overall at the Magnolia Collegiate Invitational at the Orangeburg Country Club.
The Lakers had a final round of 302 to finish the three-round tournament with a 912. Clayton State finished five strokes ahead of Lander and seven strokes off the pace of St. Andrews. UNC Pembroke won the nine-team field with a 7-over par 859 (292-282-285), nine strokes ahead of USC Aiken.
Individually for Clayton State, freshman Ryan Haskell finished tied for 20th overall in Clayton State debut with a 224. He finished 13 strokes off the pace of individual low medalist Justin Walor from UNC Pembroke, who won in a scorecard playoff. Haskell shot a 77 for his final round with a birdie on No. 18.
In addition to Haskell, fellow freshman Will Shenstone finished tied for 26th with a 226 (80-71-75) for Clayton State, while sophomore Tyson Beaupre finished 34th with a 230 (76-80-74) and senior Chris McManus finished tied for 35th with a 232 (80-76-76). Rounding out the Laker scoring was senior Clark Nelson finishing tied for 45th with a 238 (80-80-78).
Clayton State's next tournament is the Bobcat Invitational in Eatonton, Ga., on March 19-20.
