Clayton State finishes strong fifth at TVA Credit Union Invite
FLORENCE, Ala. – October 18, 2011 – Fresh off a tremendous second-round performance on Monday, the Clayton State Laker men's golf team finished up on a strong note on Tuesday at the TVA Credit Union Invite at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club.
The Lakers shot a final-round score of 290 and finished fifth overall in the 14-team field with an 887. Clayton State edged Indianapolis by one stroke, in-state rival West Georgia by two strokes and Delta State by nine strokes. The Lakers finished six strokes off the pace of Northern Kentucky.
The 23-over-par 887 is the eighth-best score to par in a 54-hole tournament in Clayton State men's golf history. Host North Alabama won the event with a sizzling' 18-under 846, finishing 30 strokes ahead of Valdosta State.
Individually for the Lakers, senior Clark Nelson finished tied for 15th overall with a 4-over 220 (79-71-70), while sophomore Tyson Beaupre finished tied for 17th with a 5-over 221 (76-71-74) and freshman Will Shenstone finished tied for 20th with a 6-over 222 (80-67-75).
In addition, freshman Ryan Lort finished tied for 39th with a 226 (80-74-72) and junior Chris McManus finished tied for 45th with a 228 (79-75-74).
Clayton State concludes the fall season by playing host to the Laker Collegiate Classic on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 23-24) of next week at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club in Hampton.
