Clayton State currently eighth after first day of Laker Collegiate Invitational
HAMPTON, Ga. – October 24, 2011 – Playing host to its fourth annual Laker Collegiate Invitational, the Clayton State Laker men's golf team got off to a rocky start on its home course on Monday and currently stand eighth overall at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club.
Clayton State had rounds of 309 and 303 for a 612 for the first day of the nine-team event. The Lakers hold a 37-stroke lead over Gordon, and trail Coastal Georgia by one stroke, Lander by four strokes and both Armstrong Atlantic and Coker by 11 strokes. UNC Pembroke leads the Laker Collegiate Invitational after the first day with a 580 (288-292), 11 strokes ahead of Georgia Southwestern.
West Georgia is in third at 592.
Individually for Clayton State, senior Clark Nelson is currently tied for 18th overall after the first two rounds with a 7-over-par 151 (73-78). He trails the overall leader Jordan Walor from UNC Pembroke by nine strokes. Junior Chris McManus is tied for 23rd with an 8-over 152 (77-75), while freshman Will Shenstone is tied for 27th with a 10-over 154 (81-73).
In addition, fellow freshman Ryan Lort is tied for 30th with a 155 (78-77), followed by sophomore Tyson Beaupre tied for 40th with a 160 (82-78). Playing as an individual, sophomore Barrett McCarthy is also tied for 40th with a 160 (81-79).
The third and final round is set for 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club.
