Clayton State tied for eighth at TVA Credit Union Invite

FLORENCE, Ala. – October 17, 2011 – The Clayton State Laker men's golf team recovered from a tough opening round on Tuesday to stand tied for eighth after the first two rounds of the TVA Credit Union Invite at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club.

The Lakers opened with a horrendous 314 in the first round on the 7,133-yard course, but rebounded for an impressive 5-under-par 283 in the second round for a two-round score of 597 in the 14-team field. Clayton State is tied for eighth with Henderson State, and the Lakers lead Delta State by a stroke, Martin Methodist by eight strokes and Arkansas Tech by nine strokes.

The 5-under 283 is tied for the Lakers' fourth-best round to par in program history. The Lakers tied with host North Alabama and Northern Kentucky for the low round score in the second round. North Alabama leads the tournament with a sizzlin' 14-under 562 and an 18-stroke lead over Lindenwood.

Individually for Clayton State, sophomore Tyson Beaupre and freshman Will Shenstone are tied for 20th with a 3-over 147. Beaupre had rounds of 76 and 71, while Shenstone rebounded from an 80 in the opening round to fire a 5-under 67 in round two. That tied individual leader Jake Greer from North Alabama for the lowest individual score of the second round.

It is the sixth-best individual round to par for a Laker player in program history.

In addition, senior Clark Nelson is tied for 31st with a 6-over 150 (79-71), while junior Chris McManus (79-75) and freshman Ryan Lort (80-75) are both tied for 53rd with a 10-over 154.

The third and final round of the TVA Credit Union Invite will be on Tuesday at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club.
