Clayton State men to play USC Aiken in Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals

MORROW, Ga. – February 27, 2012 – The 2012 Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Tournament is set, and the Clayton State Lakers will be in action on Friday against USC Aiken in the tournament quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at the Lumpkin Center at Columbus State.
The Lakers finished the regular season 16-10 overall and 8-9 in the Peach Belt Conference, good for fourth place in the PBC West Division. They will face a Pacer team that won the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship with a 20-6 overall record and 14-4 mark in the Peach Belt. The winner of this quarterfinal matchup will play the winner of the Lander/Columbus State quarterfinal game on Saturday in the semifinals at 8 p.m.
The Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game is slated for Sunday at the Lumpkin Center.
The two teams squared off once during the regular season, and Clayton State came away with a 74-71 victory at the Athletics and Fitness Center on Jan. 28. This marks the sixth time that Clayton State and USC Aiken have played each other in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, and the Lakers have won three of those meetings.
The most notable was the 2008 PBC Tournament championship at USC Aiken in which Clayton State prevailed 89-87 in triple-overtime for the Lakers' lone PBC Tournament championship.
