NEWBERRY, S.C. – Junior defender
Kwaku Dwamena (Richmond, Va.) capped off a tremendous first season in a Clayton State uniform by being named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Men's Soccer All-Southeast Region Team as a Second-Team selection on Wednesday, November 15.
Â
An All-Peach Belt Conference First-Team selection, Dwamena burst onto the scene to lead the league in goals with 11 and claim the Gold Ball Award as the top scorer. He also finished atop the PBC's points leaders with 26 on the year.
Â
In terms of scoring, he is just the fourth individual in program history to lead the league in goals, joining Avery Shepard (11 goals in 2015), Jamal Geathers (18 goals in 2007) and Leighton Fredericks (13 goals in 2008)
Â
Even with beginning the season as a full-time defender he scored in eight games, including a career-best three goals against Southern Wesleyan (9/13). He also notched at least one point in 10 games, a stretch that included having a hand in all three scores in a 3-2 double overtime win over Erskine (10/4). In that game he scored two himself and assisted on another.
Â
He is one of just five PBC players among the 26 individuals to be named to one of the two teams this season. Joining him are Young Harris' Marco Micaletto and Macauley King, both on the First-Team, along with Lander's Jordan Skelton (First-Team) and Thibault Chretien (Second-Team).
Dwamena is the 20
th overall selection in team history and the first since Avery Shepard's back-to-back honors in 2014 and 2015. It also marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons that the Lakers have had at least one player on an All-Region team. Â
NOTE: Prior to 2015, the D2CCA All-Southeast Region Team was title sponsored by Daktronics.
