AUGUSTA, Ga. - As the regular season came to a close, seven Clayton State student-athletes were named to the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer All-Academic Team.
 
Leading the way for the Lakers were sophomores Manoly Baquerizo (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Maddie Miller (Augusta, Ga) with a perfect 4.0 GPA as Psychology & Human Services and Biology majors, respectively. They were followed by senior Jessica Charman (Harefield, England.) with a 3.92 GPA in Communication & Media Studies and sophomore Jane McKevitt (Thurles, Ireland) with a 3.71 GPA as a Mathematics major.
 
Sophomore Janne Brouer (Aarhus, Denmark) qualified for the team with a 3.67 GPA as a Business major and senior Tovin Saleh (Linkoping, Sweden) notched a 3.33 as a Psychology and Human Services major. Fellow senior Iciar Duran (Madrid, Spain) rounded out the squad with a 3.30 GPA as a Pre-Education major.
 
Additionally, six of the seven Lakers' selections are international student-athletes. That total is more than a third of the 16 internationals on this year's team. Individually, Charman has earned All-Academic Team recognition for the third straight year while Duran collected her second consecutive honor. 
 
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor. The GPA is calculated through the previous semester.
 
The Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Academic All-Conference Team is released near the end of the regular season every year and prior to the conference championship.
