AUGUSTA, Ga. – With a career week in the books, redshirt-senior goalkeeper Oliver Pannell (Nottingham, England) has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week honor as announced by the league on Monday, October 23.
 
Over the course of two games, he delivered perhaps the most impressive week of his career as he was instrumental in the Lakers upsetting No. 7 Young Harris (10/18) and earning a key tie at USC Aiken (10/21).
 
Against the Mountain Lions, Pannell surrendered three goals to a high scoring offense but made a career-best 15 saves (nearly double his previous of eight) while facing a personal best 30 shots. Facing that onslaught, he went the distance, playing 95:27 to help the Lakers pull off the incredible 4-3 overtime decision.
 
Needing a result at USC Aiken to buoy their chances of a home PBC Quarterfinal game, Pannell played a career-high 110 minutes and surrendered only one goal, that in the first four-plus minutes, to help secure a 1-1 tie. On the week he played 205:27 and went 1-0-1 with a 2.00 goals against average.
 
It is the first career PBC Goalkeeper of the Week selection for Pannell and he becomes the 11^th overall selection in program history. He is also just the fifth individual to earn the honor, the first Clayton State keeper to be recognized this season and the first to do it since Viltsu Tuumi accomplished it twice in 2015.
 
Since the Peach Belt began giving out the award in 2008, the Lakers have had at least one Goalkeeper of the Week selection in seven of the 10 seasons. David Cristofoli and Brian Garcia share the all-time mark with three selections apiece. Cristofoli earned his first in 2008 and two in 2009 while Garcia had two in 2010 and his third in 2011.
 
Overall the program has claimed a total of 52 weekly honorees from Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week. In 2007, the Peach Belt went from recognizing just one individual to honoring two per week and eventually three award winners beginning in 2008.
 
Pannell and the Lakers round out home regular season action when they host North Georgia on Wednesday, October 25.
