Foster Named PBC Men's Soccer Player of the Week; Second Straight Honor for Clayton State

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Coming off of one of the biggest wins in the program's recent history, sophomore forward Dean Foster (Johannesburg, South Africa) has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honor as announced by the league on Monday, October 23.

Over the course of two games he played a critical role in not only a win over a Top-10 program, but also keeping the Lakers in line for a home PBC Quarterfinal.

Taking on No. 7 Young Harris (10/18), Foster would step up in the clutch with his team trailing 3-2 late in the second half. Just three minutes after the Mountain Lions scored to take the lead, he raced down the field, charged the keeper and delivered the tying goal.

Knotted at 3-3 in overtime, he would notch an even more impressive score. Awarded a free kick from 30 yards out, Foster put it directly on net, rifling it over the keeper's outstretched hands as he went top shelf for the 4-3 victory.

Rounding out the week at USC Aiken (10/21) in a game the Lakers needed to have some type of result, Foster stepped up again. Down 1-0 after just four-plus minutes, he took a pass in the 18th minute from Kwaku Dwamena and put it past the keeper to the left corner to tie it up. Clayton State would go on to hold that margin and notch a 1-1 tie.

On the week he delivered three goals on six shots (four on net), including the game winner in overtime against the No. 7 team in the country. On the year he has 10 goals and is tied for the league lead with Dwamena. Foster also has registered 23 points, just behind his teammate for second best in the PBC.

Since joining the Peach Belt in 1995 as a provisional member, the Lakers have had at least one Player of the Week selection in 17 seasons, including every year from 2000-11. Leighton Fredericks holds the all-time mark with three selections with two coming in 2008 and a third in 2009.

That includes a streak of 18 straight seasons that the program has had at least one weekly honoree, dating back to the 2000 campaign. This is the second straight week that Clayton State has had the PBC Player of the Week with Dionysius Harmon winning the award last week.

Overall the program has claimed a total of 51 weekly honorees from Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week. In 2007, the Peach Belt went from recognizing just one individual to honoring two per week and eventually three award winners beginning in 2008.

Foster and the Lakers round out home regular season action when they host North Georgia on Wednesday, October 25.
