AUGUSTA, Ga. - As the regular season came to a close, four Clayton State student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team.
Leading the way for the Lakers was senior
Joy Diaz (Riverdale, Ga.) with a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Theatre major, followed by senior
Hailey Budd (Hartwell, Ga.) with a 3.88 GPA in Liberal Arts.
Junior
Carla Catala Martin (Barcelona, Spain) qualified for the team with a 3.80 GPA as a Management major and was joined by sophomore
Laura Shkembi with a 3.50 GPA in Accounting. Senior
Kimberley Zahm (Bethlehem, Ga.) rounded out the squad with a mark of 3.48 as a Psychology and Human Services major.
Additionally,
Carla Catala Martin and
Laura Shkembi are two of just four international student-athletes among the 45 honorees.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor. The GPA is calculated through the previous semester.
The Peach Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team is released near the end of the regular season every year and prior to the conference championship.
Clayton State will be back in action on Saturday, November 4 in Wingate, North Carolina for the 2017 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship.
